There isn't much that's more rewarding than working with American kids who, as you can see, worked enthusiatically without barriers to help underprivileged kids around the world.
Recently, members of the
- National Junior Honor Society at Washington Irving Middle School in Springfield and
- West Springfield Rotary Club
joined forces to collect bicycles that will be sent around the world to provide school age children with transportation to their school.
The students placed flyers throughout the community announcing the event and then prepared the bikes for shipment.. We collected 61 bikes over a four hour period.
Bikes For The World was formed in 2005, is based in Bethesda, MD and conducts bike drives from Delaware to North Carolina. To date, it has shipped almost 60,000 bicycles to 14 countries throughout the world.

Some students worked alone
Others worked in teams

Patrick Salkind, the son of our club president, former student at Washington Irving helped with the project

The "stash" of bikes grew rapidly
